You asked me a specific question, and I am answering quite differently than you probably thought I would. Am I avoiding the question? Yes! But that is the remontant Fury already. When I thought about what literary genre I associate with the remontant Fury, a strong sense of revulsion set in. ‘Genre’ is an auxiliary concept that often doesn't do justice to what makes a text. The remontant Fury throws auxiliary concepts overboard, it also breaks away from the pigeonholes it was put into, until one day she recognised herself. This recognition is not an occurrence, but a process, exhausting, often without clear nameability, but with a clearer admission of feelings.
So I threw the categories overboard and had a clear and radiant vision of what I associate with the remontant Fury: the yellow mountain and the ‘dress, summer dress’, both gifts from Frank Mädler, a friend who has been with me for a long time and whom I met during a phase of my life that was one intense high.
He gave me the yellow mountain and ‘dress, summer dress’ in 2018 and 2019. In both, I recognise all my desires and also life itself. This mountain and this dress mean awareness of one's own possibilities and their generous acceptance to me. And they mean friendship.
They mean that all judgements from the outside become irrelevant, because it is a friend's gaze that they bestow on me. And the remontant Fury is open to friendship, to herself and to life.
So simple, so yellow, so ‘dress, summer dress’.
After all, it is a literary genre: a letter.
